Whoops, sorry, I meant the instructions on Daniel's page. I have no idea which driver DD-WRT is installing.

Btw, those DD-WRT instructions seem to install the non-free Linux-2.4.x-only wlan driver.

If you want to use free software you can build openwrt from svn and get Linux 2.6.x with free driver. Here are my notes:

# my hardware is wrt54gl v1.1

svn co svn://svn.openwrt.org/openwrt/trunk/ openwrt
# On 2009-11-21 I got revision 18459

# alternatively you can use git clone git://nbd.name/openwrt.git openwrt-git

# choose "# Broadcom BCM947xx/953xx"
# make

# hit enter twice (a bug, asks about kernel options but the question is not visible)

# flash bin/openwrt-wrt54g-squashfs.bin to the device

Well, I bought the hardware specifically with the purpose of using DD-WRT on it. I am used to it and happy with it working as DNS-cache, stable IPs given via DHCP, uPNP support, easy traffic priority scheduling and it is smaller leaving more RAM for all the connection info and such.

I know there is a readme, but can you tell me why did you do the firmware change? I have the same device and it is the first time I am happy with an original firmware. Wifi connection is stable and the router can handle lots of torrent connections, etc. Something in particular that makes the "upgrade" worthwhile?

When I received mine, all I did was disable the original, dead mainboard sound device in my BIOS settings, plug in the gadget to the USB port and boot the system. The 2.6.29 linux kernel detected it right away and because no other sound card was present on the system, it became the new default. No further installation of software or configuration was necessary. That being said, this blog's comments are probably not the best place the conduct a help session, so if things don't work, seek help from your OS vendor's regular support channels.

Okay, so I am new. I found this page while trying to figure out how to configure the usb "3d sound" card. I also paid $3 for mine. I got it because the sound in my laptop died, and I was trying to replace it without getting the laptop opened. If you have any suggestions or instructions I would be thankful. It came in a padded envelope with none of that.

Read this yesterday and later that day I encountered a case where it would be very useful. Its a nice way to pass around objects even if you dont have one. Better than making object parameters optional all over the code imho

I have one of these USB 3D Sound devices. It cost about $3. I got it because my laptop's internal sound module died long ago.

It works automatically in Debian Lenny. I'm running standard GNOME, and I did have to select the new sound card for the various inputs and outputs in System - Preferences - Sound.

The device also works in Ubuntu Karmic and Lucid.

Right now I'm running it out of Lenny, and I've been very happy that such an inexpensive solution worked so well.
