I used to live in Frankfurt (am Main, not an der Oder!) about twenty years ago. I hate Sachsenhausen, which is too touristy and too plasticky for me, but it seems most of the tourist head there.
I'm not going to say much positive about German food, so you can make your own mind up there. Its not in any way bad, just not something I'd make the high point of a visit.
There used to be a pizzeria which did the perfect Margherita pizza, just off the Konstablerwache/Hautwache area and if I remember the name I'll add it, but it was twenty years ago...
I liked the area around the Berger Strasse generally and there were some nice bars/restauaunts/coffee places round there then. And it can be a nice walk from the area around Berger Strasse tube -can't remember the name of the large road that cuts through Berger Strasse there, but its effectively the ring road and it'll be named after someone famous (Adenauer??) - in towards the next tube (memory fade alert!) in towards the town centre, if the weather is good.

Oh, and use public transport. Not as good as Munich, but brilliant compared to anywhere here (England) with the possible exception of London. There is probably an 'all you can eat for the day/week/weekend' ticket that represents good value.
