First of all, I'd like to point out that, though this is a fairly logical and efficient workflow, every photographer uses his or her own way. So designing a piece of photo management software that suits the needs of every photographer is quite a challenge. There is no perfect workflow. What you describe here may suit you perfectly, but drive another mad.

Having said that, F-Spot is indeed still a bit lacking. But there are only two important features still missing: 1. An in-program implementation of (dcraw) with real-time preview (like ufraw). 2. A good EXIF and Meta-data editor.

F-Spot is going in the right direction, and it's still a hell of a lot faster than gThumb when viewing a couple of hundred RAW picture (gThumb doesn't like that at all). And it's smarter and less bloated than Digikam.

The perfect setup for me would be F-spot with ufraw integrated into it and good Meta-data and EXIF support. UFRaw refuses to send through my meta-data, and it's driving me mad. I'd almost go have a look at Adobe's Lightroom... Almost, but not quite, because I'm afraid of Windows and too poor for a Mac. ;)
